English — attend → directed presence
Spanish — atender → attention shading into responsive care/service
French — attendre / être attentif à → waiting separates from directed attention
Italian — attendere / attendere a → waiting/application to something
German — achten auf / sich zuwenden → heed/turn oneself toward
To attend is to orient oneself toward what presents itself and remain sufficiently present for its relation to become distinguishable.
What appears need not be immediately classified, resolved, taken up, or dismissed.
An interruption may disclose a relation.
An inconsistency may expose a distinction.
An opportunity may contain what was not visible at first encounter.
Attention creates an interval between appearance and disposition.
Not everything attended must be retained.
Not everything released is lost.
Not everything ended is erased.
The journey may end. The relation need not.
