A local fixed point that permits something much larger to remain extended.

The tent is not the stake.

The cord is not the stake.

The territory enclosed by the tent is not the stake.

The stake is comparatively small, local, and driven into particular ground.

Its significance arises from the tensioned relation it is capable of bearing.

GROUND → STAKE → CORD → TENSION → EXTENDED FIELD

The stake does not contain the field.

It permits extension by holding relation at a point.

Isaiah gives the architecture:

ENLARGE THE TENT.
STRETCH THE CURTAINS.
LENGTHEN THE CORDS.
STRENGTHEN THE STAKES.

Expansion therefore does not eliminate fixed relation.

It may require it.

FOLD — reduce extension without necessarily reducing capacity.
STAKE — support extension without becoming the extended field.
